Museum & Gallery

The museum of SFRI, Jabalpur came to existence in the year 2003. It has different sections viz. medicinal plants, wildlife, wood and crafts.

Full specimens of Crocodile, Alligator, Tortoise, Spotted deer, Hyena, Black buck and Panther and some trophies and skins of animals are exhibited in the zoological section.

Plant fossils collected from "Guguwa National Fossils Park" of Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh are also displayed. These fossils represent time period and impressions of different types of plant species. Different types of rock formations are also exhibited.

Important medicinal and aromatic plants have been displayed in the form of seeds, parts of plant, oil specimens and photographs in the botanical section. These collections are useful for identification of medicinal plants. Herbarium specimens of medicinal plants are also displayed in this section with detailed information. Charts on cultivation and processing, marketing and tissue culture of medicinal and aromatic plants have been displayed for creating awareness towards medicinal plant conservation. Some article made up of lac, bamboo, fibres are also displayed.

Number of timber/wood samples, which are very useful in identification and verification of different types of wood is also on display. A comparative chart of wood containing weight, durability, age and their specific characters are presented in this section, which benefit scholars and forest personnel.

The museum also has a giant size bija (Pterocarpus marsupium) log with girth of 4.25 meter and length of 6.30 meter. The log was obtained from forest division.

Important publication and brochures of SFRI, Jabalpur are also displayed. Visiting hours of the museum is 10.30 am to 5.30 am on all working days and is free for visitors.
