Research Divisions
EXTENSION,
TRAINING AND CONSULTANCY |
Research without extension to the beneficiaries is meaningless and is
an important post research activity. the extension, training and
consultancy division of this institute endeavours to transfer
technological packages from laboratory to the land to the intended
target groups especially the farmers and the forest dependent
communities. The division servers an interface between the institute
and the stakeholders and end users to strengthen the outcome of
research carried out by the scientists of the institute on different
aspects of forestry individual and also in collaboration with other
sister organization.

Mandate |
The division disseminates the
forestry research technologies evolved by the institute to different
stakeholders like MP Forest Department, farmers business
entrepreneurs, NGOS etc. The dissemination of different research
results is being carried out through periodical publication of
annual research report, annual action plan, brochures, pamphlets,
extension series and technical bulletins and mass communication
through various media.

Activities:
 |
To act as a nodal agency for
developing comprehensive extension strategies offering both
short term and long term on-campus and off-campus, sponsored
and fee based training programmes and refresher courses in
forestry.

Dissemination
programmes on different aspects related to forestry.
|
 |
The three
major areas of extension activities are cultivation,
harvesting, storage and marketing of medicinal and aromatic
plants, seed technology and tissue culture and biotechnology.

Other
training activities un the field of forest ecology, forest
botany, forest statistics and silviculture are also undertaken
on demand.

 |
Organization of need based workshops,
seminors, symposiums and meetings for sharing of experiences,
exchange of ideas policy decisions for furthering the cause of
conservation and development of forest and forest resources.

The division
participation in
‘Van Mela’, 'herbal fairs’, 'Kissan Mela' exhibitions to
acquaints the forestry research technologies to public at
large.

Environmental awareness campaign are
conducted from time to time for school students and farmers.

The institute has
a museum, herbarium, mist chambers, tissue culture laboratory,
seed technology laboratory, soil science laboratory, botanical
garden, medicinal plant gene bank, circular rose garden,
ornamental nursery and nursery of forest plants which are
visited by the trainees, researchers, students and general
visitors to the institute.
