B. REGULAR ACTIVITIES/RESEARCH

To standardize primary processing and drying
techniques for NWFPs including medicinal plants.
Objectives:
2[a]. Ornamental
Nursery.
A nursery of ornamental
plants has been created to meet the requirement for ornamental, indoor
plants including roses and ornamental avenue.
It is
also proposed to cater to the growing demand of government
organizations, raising of avenue shrub/trees is proposed in a big way.
A booklet having rates of ornamental, medicinal and forestry species
in SFRI nurseries was published by the branch.

Development and maintenance of gardens of the Institute
SFRI has a large sprawling campus located in the city which has a
large population. The Institute has created some gardens/parks and
redone the landscape. Currently the Institute has the following.

Green house with
some indoor plants.

Cactus House
with few cactii varieties.

A large circular
Rose garden which has won more than 85 prizes in Rose shows.
-
A garden of
seasonal flowers.
-
Small Rose
garden inside main building.
-
Front office
garden.
-
Visitors park
and medicinal garden.
-
In the annual rose
show held on 31st Jan 2010, SFRI won 7 prizes for cut roses. A
garden of the institute won first prize in small rose garden
category
