  • Collection of quality seeds from identified superior genetic sources.

  • Seed storage.

  • Seed certification.

  • Research on seed biology, pollination biology, physiology and biochemistry.

  • Contribution to the knowledge of seed technology in regards to enhanced germination and longevity of seeds.

A. ON-GOING PROJECTS

  1. To develop seed technology and nursery techniques for Sterculia urens, Bridelia retusa,  Pterocarpus marsupium and Litsea glutinosa economically important indigenous species.

Objectives:

  • To promote planting of indigenous species in afforestation  programme.

  • To evolve nursery and planting techniques of economically important indigenous species to have quality seedlings and successful plantation.

  1. Development of seed storage technique of Rauvolfia serpentina, Withania somnifera, Andographis paniculata and Sapindus trifoliatus  important medicinal plants.

Objective:

  • To find out the best storage methods for maintaining longevity of seeds of some important medicinal plant species.

  1. Germplasm evaluation and standardization of packages of propagation thought seeds and also thought vegetative propagation of economically important species  of Mahua and Kusum.

  • To identify the potential pockets of Mahua and Kusum.

  • Germplasm evaluation with reference to morphological, physiological and biochemical attributes.

  1. Training and demonstration programme for transfer of technology of enhancing flowering and fruiting in Mahua trees in through application of various fertilizers and chemicals.
