A. ON-GOING PROJECTS

  1. Vegetational and edaphic studies in preservation plots established in different forest types of Madhya Pradesh.

Objectives:

  • Successional study to monitor changes in phytosociology and soil characteristics in different preservation plots at 5 years intervals.

  1. Impact Assessment of different treatments on rehabilitation of gregariously flowered bamboo forests in Madhya Pradesh.

Objectives:

  • To study the effect of different treatments on rehabilitation and establishment of bamboo clumps in gregariously flowered bamboo areas.

  1. Impact assessment of reclamation of mined lands of Singrauli on physical, biological and ecological attributes

Objectives:

  • To assess changes in physical & chemical properties such as bulk density, texture, erodibility / state of slope stabilization, sedimentation, soil structure, pH, temperature, CEC, presence of heavy metals, toxicity and acidity in reclaimed soil and orphan mined sites of different ages and adjoining natural forests.

  • To study the primary succession of ground vegetation in revegetated O.B dumps and its comparison with ground flora of adjoining natural forests.

  • To study distribution pattern of roots and rhizosphere dynamics of revegetated mine spoils and microbial biomass on reclaimed soils, orphan mined sites of different ages and adjoining natural forests.

  1. Strengthening of the infrastructure of the existing botanical garden for conservation, mass multiplication and   to promote conservation awareness about rare,  endangered, threatened and endemic plants of Madhya  Pradesh.

Objectives:

  • Development of infrastructural facilities like construction of green house, pavement, of paths, irrigation network and protection measures.

  • Conservation and mass multiplication of 13 RET  species viz., Radermachera xylocarpa, Oroxylum indicum, Litsea glutinosa, Crateva magna, Ficus cupulata, Flemingia paniculata, Flemingia stricta, Commiphora wightii, Dioscorea tomentosa, Dioscorea wallichii, Ceropegia bulbosa, Ceropegia marcrantha, Alectra chitrakutensis.

  • Preparation of education material to create conservation awareness among scientific community, students, environmentalists, foresters and various other stake holders.

  1. Strengthening the existing botanic garden and creation of thematic garden of ethno-medicinal plants at State Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur

Objectives:

  • To develop spatial organization and micro-irrigation network in the existing garden.

  • To collect, conserve and maintain ethno-medicinal, economic and aromatic plants being used by aboriginal population of Madhya Pradesh

  • Mass production of 4 RET species viz., Andrographis paniculata, Gymnema sylvestre, Rauvolfia serpentina and Withania somnifera for species recovery programme.

  • To create database for associated indigenous knowledge of thematic collections.

B. REGULAR ACTIVITY/RESEARCH

  1. Development of electronic data base of forest herbarium.

Objectives:

  • Computerization of herbarium sheet to document information on distribution pattern, habit and habitats of plants and indigenous knowledge about their use in different localities.
