A. ON-GOING PROJECTS

1. Transcript and document the traditional knowledge of local communities of Bundelkhand Eco-region of Madhya Pradesh.

Objectives:

• To carryout ethno-botanical survey of communities in Bundelkhand Eco-region.

2. Development of integrated insect pest and disease control system for major economically important forest tree species. (Multi institutional project)

Objectives

     Short Term

• To assess the impact of damage caused by insect pest/diseases of Teak and Aonla in nurseries, plantations and in natural ecosystem.

• To develop integrated management package for the control of major insect pests and disease.

• To disseminate the development management packages to the user group.

     Long Term

• To develop IPM package of insect pests/diseases.

3. Development of nursery techniques of Bai-bidang (Embelia ribes) and Malkangani (Celastrus paniculata).

Objective:

• To develop nursery technique for Bai-bidang (Embelia ribes) and Malkangani (Celestrus paniculata).

• To find out suitable time and method for seed collection for plant preparation.

• To create awareness among the field staff by providing them information regarding the selected species.

4. Study on status of ground flora diversity under teak plantations of different ages raised by Madhya Pradesh Rajya Van Vikas Nigam Ltd.

Objectives:

• To study the changes in ground flora diversity under teak plantation with age and compare it with the floral diversity under adjoining natural forest.

• To study the Phyto-sociological structure of age series of teak plantation.

B. REGULAR ACTIVITIES/RESEARCH

2.  Strengthening of ex-situ gene bank of medicinal and aromatic plants.

Objectives:

• To collect germplasm of medicinal plants species from various parts of the state and its screening.

• To conserve the germplasm for biodiversity preservation for future studies.

3. Maintenance of biodiversity and medicinal plant museum.

Specimens of plants and animals are kept in the Museum. Different information regarding the research activities of the institute are exhibited in the museum. This museum is useful for forest staff, farmers, students and entrepreneurs.
